Dirt Bike riding in the Bay Area

It’s Sunday morning, the sun is out and your looking for something to do with the kids.  Well look no further than the City of Tracy which is home to the Carnegie SVRA(State Vehicle Riding Area).  This dirtbike and ATV riding area is about an hour from most of the bay area and is over 1500 acres of varying terrain for the offroad enthusiast.

There are motocross tracks and ovals for the kids, hill climbs for the more advanced riders, motocross tracks for adults and everything in between.  The park is open year around and is reasonably priced at $5/car or $50 for an annual pass.

If you have a green sticker registration you can ride year round.  The red sticker season for Carnegie is October 1 thru April 30.  The park has an overnight campground, daily picnic areas and a small accessory shop.  Coming from the Concord/Walnut Creek area, take Highway 580 east past Livermore and get off at Coral Hollow Road and go right.  The park entrance will be a couple miles down on the left hand side.  Have Fun.

Ryan Dungey helps celebrate First Anniversary at Contra Costa Powersports

Contra Costa Powersports celebrated their one year anniversary last night with a jam packed Open House. Suzuki riders Ryan Dungey, Ryan Morais and Martin Davalos were at the store signing autographs, taking pictures and talking about the RMZ line of Motocross bikes. In the supercross standings Lites Class, Ryan Morais on the Suzuki RMZ250 is currently in 4th place, only 11 points out of first.  In the supercross class, Ryan Dungey is in 3rd place on his Suzuki RMZ450, trailing leader Ryan Villopoto by just 14 points.

Just inside the front door, Ann was selling Limited Edition Ryan Dungey t-shirts that we were able to get from Fox Racing.  These high quality 100% cotton t-shirts made great souvenirs for the Suzuki racers to sign. A small quantity of these shirts are still available at the Parts Department at Contra Costa Powersports for $10 each while they last.

With just over 500 people attending some time during the evening, the store was filled with excitement for both the riders and the upcoming supercross race in Oakland. Giving away a brand new Suzuki MX bike helped attract the crowd.

It was fun to see a lot of our current customers and to meet a lot of new customers who had never been to the store before. There were also loads of future supercross champions in attendance.  From the 8 week old dressed in the Suzuki Rockstar Jumpsuit, to the 12 year old guys talking about the doubles they’re clearing on their Suzuki RMZ250, the kids were definitely represented.

All who attended were entered into a drawing to win a brand new RM85.  In addition, the Contra Costa Powersports parts department gave away over $1,000 in accessories and apparel to those in attendance.  A big thank you goes out to Fox Racing, Tucker Rocky, Parts Unlimited and Western Powersports for their generous contributions towards the door prizes.

Congratulations to Danelle Schweiger of Clayton, CA who was the winner of the Suzuki RM85.  Danelle and her family were one of the first fans to arrive for the evening and are glad they stuck around.  The winner had to be present and the first person selected for the Grand Prize (name withheld) didn’t stay around for the RM85 drawing. Ryan Dungey (pictured with the lucky winner) pulled the lucky entry form just before leaving for the evening.

Help Fight the Ban on Kids Dirt Bikes

Kids Just Want to Ride Act to be Introduced!

The Kids Just Want to Ride Act is set to be introduced next week by Representative Denny Rehberg (MT) in the U.S.  House of Representatives.  The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) strongly supports the Kids Just Want to Ride Act and is urging everyone to call their Representative to become an original cosponsor.

The Act is a legislative exemption for youth-model motorcycles (Honda CRF50, CRF70, etc) and ATVs (Suzuki LTZ50, LTZ90, etc) from the lead provisions in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), known as the Lead Law. The CPSIA effectively banned the sale of small displacement recreational vehicles due to overly restrictive lead content standards.

Rehberg recently circulated a “Dear Colleague” encouraging other representatives to become original cosponsors. The AMA needs you and everyone you know that is concerned with the future of youth riding to call your Representative and ask them to cosponsor the Kids Just Want to Ride Act.

To call your Representative, click on “Take Action” to insert your zip code in the “Call Action” box to get your Representative’s phone number. Or, you can call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-225-3121 and ask for your Representative by name.

Call your Representative now and let them know you would like to see them cosponsor the Kids Just Want to Ride Act.

2011 Honda Fury – Custom Chopper For a Low Price

Honda has raised the bar again with the 2011 Honda Fury.  First released in 2008, this is a Harley Davidson inspired cruiser with that custom chopper look.
A dealer friend of mine in Texas made this commercial about the Honda Fury that kind of says it all.  Starting at $12,999 this bike is the best deal around for a custom chopper.  With a 1300cc fuel injected motor, snap the throttle and you get nothing but raw power.  And best of all, it’s a Honda.  When you think of Honda, you see a quality built motor, an incredible fit & finish and styling that is second to none.  You worked hard last year and probably didn’t get the toy you deserve.  Reward yourself by checking out the 2011 Honda Fury.

Rising gas prices make motorcycles good alternative

With gas prices on the rise, commuters once again are looking at motorcycles and scooters as a money saving alternative to the automobile.  Observers predict gas will hit $4 by spring 2011 with it potentially reaching $5 by 2012 (Some Cities in Europe already pay over $6 per gallon).2009 Honda Metropolitan

Contributors to this run up in price could include: growing demand in developing countries such as India and China, the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and our countries continuing love of the SUV.

Gas-guzzlers are already feeling the pinch. Prices are hovering in the mid-three-dollar range right now, the most expensive they’ve been in a December for several years. Usually, gas gets cheaper in the winter months, but prices have been rising since September of this year.

Last time gas approached $4 a gallon, consumers flocked to scooters and small displacement motorcycles in droves.  The Honda Rebel and the Suzuki GZ250 (both 250cc street legal motorcycles) are lightweight with a low seat height which makes them very easy to drive.  At over 80 mpg, they are sure to decrease your monthly commute expense.Suzuki Burgman 650

If you’re looking for even better gas mileage, or you don’t like the idea of shifting gears. a scooter may be just the ticket.  At over 100 mpg, the Honda Metropolitan and Honda Ruckus are one of the best values around and they start at just over $2,000.  If a long range commuter that you can ride two up down the freeway is your calling, then you might want to check out the Suzuki Burgman, available in both 400cc and 650cc models.  The Suzuki Burgman offers a very respectable 38 mpg.  Besides the ease of operation and great gas mileage, scooters are a lot of fun to ride.
